COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following one of the most contentious elections in U.S. history, Donald Trump supporters were rewarded today with his inauguration. And while the day wasn't without controversy, for many across the country, including right here in Colorado Springs,  it was a day to celebrate.

Today Donald Trump supporters finally heard the three words they'd been waiting over a year and a half for.

"Congratulations Mr. President."

For trump supporters today was a day to celebrate. "I feel good. I think its an exciting time for everybody," said Luke Wilson, a Trump supporter from Colorado Springs. "I think everybody should be excited right now."

The official business didn't stop at changing presidents, by mid-day the @POTUS twitter handle had changed from 44 to 45. And by nightfall with Colorado Springs' own Air Force cadets got into the pomp and circumstance.

For some though, the day wasn't as much about democrats or republicans....but a new direction that they're most looking forward to.

"I didn't vote for Obama but I was excited about Obama's administration too," said Tom Larkin. "So it's always about the change.
