Driver arrested after hitting Colorado Springs police cruiser

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A driver was arrested in Colorado Springs after hitting a CSPD cruiser Friday night.

Gold Hill officers were blocking southbound lanes on I-25 near the Cimarron exit when they say Todd Buck drove through the barricades and hit a police car causing moderate damage.

Buck continued driving, but was eventually stopped by police. He was arrested for DUI and possession of suspected cocaine.

No one was in the police cruiser at the time and no injuries in the area.

Police had the area blocked off following a multi-car pileup involving at least 10 cars just after 10:00.

Police say a driver was traveling on southbound I-25 and lost control over the S. Nevada bridge. A second car then lost control, hitting the first one. The driver of the first car then got out of his vehicle and was hit by a third car that lost control trying to slow down because of the initial accident.

That caused a chain reaction accident involving at least 9 other vehicles causing southbound I-25 to be closed for almost 4 hours while the accident was cleared.

The drivers of the first and third vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the accident. Speed/driving too fast for the icy conditions is believed to be what caused the crash.

The accident is still under investigation. No one has been charged with any traffic related charges at this time.
