El Paso County deputies still investigating Sunday morning shooting

El Paso County investigators continue looking for clues in Sunday morning shooting

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting in Security-Widefield, on Bonterra Lane early Sunday morning.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says they believe the suspected shooter shot himself. The other man is currently at a local hospital. No other information was readily available. Jacqueline Kirby, public information officer for the Sheriff's office said, "we're still in the early phases of our investigation."

Neighbors in the area came out of their house at the sight of a crime scene in their tightly knit neighborhood. Some people told us a community Facebook page alerted them to the incident.

John Iwanski who lives a couple houses down said he was surprised his family didn't hear anything overnight especially after, "we had some windows open with the nice weather and no commotion, nothing that startled us or woke us or anything."

He said the corner where the shooting took place serves a bus stop for elementary students in the neighborhood. Iwanski said, "it's been a great neighborhood to be in and a great location and that's what makes us surprised that it would be here."

We're still waiting to learn the identities of the men involved and what led up to the shooting.
