El Paso County treecycle begins December 31

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - El Paso County is gearing up for its annual Christmas tree recycling program.

The trees are ground into mulch that is given away free. Bring your own tools and containers if you want to take home some mulch.

Six collection sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 31, January 1, January 7 and January 8.

The collection sites are as follows:

Baptist Road, New Santa Fe Trailhead - Baptist Road & Old Denver Highway
Falcon, Rock Island Trailhead - SW of Woodmen Road & McLaughlin Road
Cottonwood Creek Park - Dublin Boulevard & Montarbor Drive
Sky Sox Stadium - Barnes Road & Tutt Boulevard
Rock Ledge Ranch - Gateway Road (to Garden of the Gods) & 30th Street
Memorial Park - Pikes Peak Avenue & Union Boulevard

Trees may also be taken to a seventh location, Rocky Top Resources, 1755 E Las Vegas Street, Colorado Springs, CO  80903.  Rocky Top Resources will accept trees December 27-30, 2016, and January 3 to 31, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays.

The $5 suggested minimum fee is tax deductible and benefits community youth sports programs through El Pomar Youth Sports.
