FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. - November 7, 2017, is Election Day for most of the state of Colorado as well as the nation. KRDO NewsChannel 13 has broken down some of the top issues on the Fremont County Ballot.
Issue 3A General Fund Override
- If 3A is approved, a property tax override mill levy would be imposed until a tax increase of $1,385,000 is achieved annually, limited to a 10 year period starting in 2018 and ending after the 2027 collection year. If approved, the money would be used in all Canon City district schools, including Mountain View Core Knowledge Charter School. The funds would improve student access to technology, replace outdated educational materials, and attracting and retaining quality teachers and staff.
Issue 3B General Obligation Bond
-If 3B is passed, Canon City school district taxes would increase up to $1.55 million annually and the debt would increase to $18.2 million with a repayment cost of up to $30.9 million. If passed, the increase of taxes would be to receive state financial assistance and matching money debt. If passed, the financial assistance and matching money debt would go to construct a new elementary school to replace Washington Elementary, constructing a new middle school to replace Canon City Middle School, and paying off the outstanding Mountain View Core Knowledge Charter School facilities loan.
