Local Drug testing lab talks drug use in Colorado Springs and Pueblo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Southern Colorado drug testing lab is seeing an increase in drug abuse in Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Pyxant Labs is one of the top drug testing facilities in the country, testing everything from blood, urine and saliva. The president and COO, Jean Pineault says they receive hundreds of samples every day. Pyxant screens for more than 70 different types of drugs.

Pineault says they are seeing common use of opioids in Colorado Springs and  heroin and meth use in Pueblo. What's most concerning is what they're seeing on a national level. Pineault says, "What has been happening and we have been seeing this around the country as well, is when heroin has been laced with fentanyl, the person using, will actually die because of that."

The assistant lab director, Davonne Auguste says it only takes three milligrams of fentanyl to kill someone.
