New downtown hotel project breaks ground

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mayor John Suthers was in attendance for a groundbreaking ceremony for a new hotel in downtown Colorado Springs Wednesday.

The 10-story, 165 room Hilton Garden Inn will rise from a dirt lot at 123 N. Cascade Avenue, at the intersection of N. Cascade Avenue and W. Bijou Street.

The project includes space for retail businesses on the ground floor. It is scheduled to open in 2018.

This project marks the first time that a new hotel has been built from the ground up in downtown Colorado Springs since 1967.
