Photos of serial killer Ted Bundy found in old Colorado safe

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado newspaper has discovered 40-year-old photos of serial killer Ted Bundy that had been locked in an antique safe.

The Glenwood Springs Post-Independent reported Monday that the photos show Bundy in custody in 1977, the year he escaped from a Colorado courthouse while awaiting a murder trial.

The photos were in a safe used as a newsroom table. Nobody knew what was inside or how to open it, but a local locksmith volunteered to crack it.

Bundy was recaptured after fleeing the courthouse but escaped again after sawing a hole in the ceiling of a Colorado jail cell. He was arrested again in Florida.

Bundy was executed in Florida in 1989 after he was convicted of three murders there. He had confessed to 30 killings across the country.
