Police believe speeding contributed to fatal crash near Cave of the Winds

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. - The Manitou Springs Police Department believes speeding may have played a part in the crash that ended in one person dead and another being airlifted on Sunday.

The crash happened off Highway 24 at Cave of the Winds at around 4:45 p.m.

Two cars, one being a sedan, crashed at the intersection. Manitou PD believe thinks that speeding and one of the vehicles running a red light led to the crash.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the passengers in the sedan was 36 weeks pregnant. She had to be recovered from the sedan by the Jaws of Life. After she was taken to the hospital, staff had to do an emergency c-section.

Both the mom and the baby are doing OK.

No update has been given on the person that was airlifted.

Names of those involved will be released by the Police Department in the next couple of days.
