A truck carrying what was described as "cranberry sludge" spilled its load all over a highway in Woburn, Massachusetts.

The Associated Press reports that the spill on the Boston-area highway slowed down traffic and caused the road to turn red.

Cleanup crews used shovels and hoses to clean up the mess, and then sanded the area, but the highway retained a distinct reddish hue, according to broadcast traffic reports.

The cause of the spill is unknown.

A tractor-trailer hauling thousands of pounds of meat sideswiped a freeway median on Interstate 494 in the Minneapolis suburb of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, during Monday morning's rush hour, spilling a load of sausages across the median into opposite lanes. A spokeswoman for the Minnesota State Patrol told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the truck driver had a medical episode and blacked out but was not injured in the crash.
