Twin sisters found fatally shot at Royal Gorge Bridge Park

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. - Deputies have identified twin sisters found fatally shot inside a vehicle Friday at the Royal Gorge Bridge Park in Fremont County.  The twins had earlier been featured in medical publications after undergoing pioneering brain surgery.

According to a news release sent Monday afternoon, Fremont County deputies found Sara and Amanda Eldritch, both 33 and of Broomfield, dead inside a vehicle.

Fremont County hasn't said they're investigating the case as a homicide, only saying it's a death investigation. The sheriff's office says the shooting "appears to be an isolated incident," and suspected it was a double-suicide.

It's not clear how many shots were fired or if a weapon was recovered at the scene.

The Eldritch sisters made headlines in 2016 as part of a new experimental treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder.  The sisters' surgery was featured in an episode of "The Doctors", a syndicated medical show which airs on KRDO weekdays at 1:00 PM.

We have reached out to the sheriff's office for more information about the investigation.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article said the sisters were found Monday, based on information provided by the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. FCSO later clarified that the bodies were found Friday. This article has been updated to reflect that correction.
