Two People Killed In Monte Vista

Reported Double Homicide

MONTE VISTA, Colo. - There was a double homicide in Monte Vista Monday morning and a suspect is still on the run.

According to Monte Vista Police, they received a report of gunshots in the 500 block of Lyell Street. Officers arrived and found the body of 54-year-old John Salazar outside his home. His girlfriend, 29-year-old Sarah Janay Beasley was found dead inside the home.

A suspect was seen leaving the area wearing a black ski mask, black jacket, black pants and gloves. He is described as being about 5'7" and overweight.

A viewer tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that an elementary school in Monte Vista was on lockdown this morning. Our calls to the Monte Vista schools have not been returned.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause and manner of the deaths.
