Cañon City, Colo. - Family confirmed Monday night the names of the three people found dead in their home while a makeshift memorial continued to grow to honor the lives lost.
The victims are a 5-year-old Mason Folsom, 9-year-old Marissa Folsom, and their mother 35-year-old Mandy Folsom. One of her other children, a teenager, survived.
Police have arrested 31-year-old Jaacob Van Winkle as a suspect in a triple homicide.
Three people were found dead in a home in Cañon City late Sunday night.
The teen girl was reportedly sexually assaulted, but was able to get out the house.
Police said officers responded to a sexual assault call by the female teenager around 8 p.m. Sunday (3/9) in the 1100 block of Phay Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found three people dead inside the home.
"It's a shame for the city, it's a shame to everyone and their families," said Gus Pielafas.
Pielafas owns a Greek restaurant in Cañon City near the prison. He said, while the city is home to criminals serving their time for their crimes, those crimes are usually committed elsewhere, not in Cañon City.
He's lived in Cañon City since 1978. He said the triple homicide is a sign the city is changing.
"As you have growth you expect some people to cause problems. Just like any other city," said Pielafas.
Neighbors paid their respects, and struggled to accept what happened so close to home.
"It was just really sad to me," said Lupe Cerdenas.
Cerdenas and Oscar Cerdenas Lopez placed a teddy bear near a tree in the family's front yard.
"We are trying to tell the people that they are happy where they are at right now, they are happy up in heaven and hopefully that will never happen again," said Oscar Cerdenas Lopez.
"It's very hard on everyone involved. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. It's also very hard on the first responders," said Cañon City Police during a press conference.
Police said there is no further danger to the public.
Van Winkle faces multiple counts, including:
• 3 Counts first-Degree Murder
• 1 count Kidnapping
• sexual assault
• Sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust
