Safety, Health, Wellness and Preparation Day - Colorado Springs
People have been asking for help to get their families prepared for any disaster that may strike at any time! In answer to this request from the community, Wescott Fire Department is hosting their annual "Safety, Health, Wellness and Preparation Day" this Saturday June 1, 2013.
Information and ideas at the special exhibits will include FireWise Mitigation, Fire/Drought Resistant Landscaping, Animal Wellness, Food Storage, Chiropractic Care, Massage Therapy, El Paso/Teller- E911 Smoke House, Penrose/St. Francis Pre-Hospital Education, Cancer Awareness, Electrical Safety, Monument Police, American Red Cross, Flight for Life (availability depending), see what it's like to be out on a fire-line as a Wildland Firefighter and so much more!
Special guests: Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will be there to visit with your little ones!
The Wescott Fire Department is sponsoring Partners in Housing, and any donations of personal hygiene products (laundry soap, toilet paper, etc.) will be gladly accepted.
If you also live within the Wescott Fire District your (family's) name will be put in for a drawing to have dinner with the Wescott firefighters - Winners of Best in Show MDA Firefighter Chili Cook-Off in Colorado Springs!
This is a non-profit event and is free to families, friends and all who are interested in good health, wellness, planning and preparing for emergencies.

Fire Safety Day - Colorado Springs
In commemoration of the one year anniversary of the 2012 Waldo Canyon fire, Wendy's is holding a FIRE SAFETY DAY at the Garden of the Gods location, on Saturday, June 1st in the parking lot from 2p-5p.
First Responders and teams that were key in our safety and recovery during the Waldo Canyon Fire, the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Police Department, Care and Share, and CS Utilities will be there with lots of information and hands on activities for young and old.
Bring in a non-perishable food item for Care and Share and get a FREE JR FOSTY! Dine at Wendy's from 2-5pm and a percentage of sales will go directly to Care and Share to aid in their efforts.
There will be prizes and fun activities with Wendy and Frosty, safety presentations and a chance for all to thank our first responders!
2013 Xeriscape Tours of Pueblo and Pueblo West
Are you new to Colorado and wondering how to garden in our tough conditions? Does the severe drought have you re-thinking your garden? Could your current garden survive water restrictions? Are you thinking about putting in water-wise plants? Then come on the 2013 Xeriscape Tours of Pueblo and Pueblo West and see some beautiful water-wise gardens. These free tours are great chances to learn, be inspired or just have a fun outing with your friends and family.
The Pueblo Xeriscape tour will be held on Saturday, June 1st from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
The Pueblo West tour will be on Sunday, June 2nd also from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
You are free to visit any and all of the gardens at your own leisure, in any order you wish, on the set date and time. Maps for the tours are available at most local garden nurseries, Pueblo libraries or online at the Pueblo County Extension office website under the Horticulture tab. pueblo.colostate.edu/hor/hort
Master Gardeners will be at the gardens to answer your questions.

Fishing Clinic at Quail Lake - Colorado Springs
Colorado Parks and Wildlife will host a kids fishing clinic from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Quail Lake.
Free fishing rods and reels will be distributed to the first 500 children accompanied by an adult.
Children under the age of 16 are not required to have a fishing license in Colorado, but the first weekend in June is "Free Fishing Weekend," and the requirement to purchase a fishing license is waived for adults as well.
Quail Lake is located west of the World Arena off of E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd. Free parking is available across the street at the ATMEL parking lot at 1150 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd.

BIGDOGBRAG - Pueblo

Playgrounds bring sounds of laughter, fun, and a safe environment where kids, moms and dads, coworkers and friends can relax, enjoy and have a good time. So, if your up for a challenge, but you want to have fun, laugh, hang out with family and friends and do something a little different but not put your life on the line. Then the BIGDOGBRAG is where you need to be: Pueblo, Saturday, June 1.
Little Dog 2k Mud Run: The 2k course has 10+ obstacles that are designed for anyone 6 and up who want the mud and fun with out all the run!
Big Dog 5k Mud Run: Our 5k course has 20+ fun and challenging obstacles designed for anyone 13 and up...guaranteed to bring out the kid in you!
You can walk, run, go solo or with a team! No timers, no penalties, no finger wagging! You can skip an obstacle or do them over and over just know that when you cross the finish line the dogs will be howling and you will have had a great time knowing that you did your body, mind and spirit some good!
The BIGDOGBRAG will be a challenge! You'll encounter a hills to climb, mud pits, mud bogs, walls to scale, cargo net climbs, boulders to get over, tarzan swings, and water slides and few surprises along the way.

Acacia Park Concert Series - Colorado Springs
The Acacia Park Summer Concert Series is back! The 2013 season kicks off June 1 with Kings of Space, followed by a Kickoff Extravaganza. Visit the website for the entire concert lineup.
Saturday performances begin at 6 p.m. and cover a range of music genres. Ample parking is available one block west of the park in the Bijou/Cascade parking garage. The cost is $1 for unlimited Saturday parking.
The Modbo and Downtown Colorado Springs will host a Kickoff Extravaganza for the series on Saturday, June 1. Following the concert, enjoy live music in the alley between Tejon and Cascade behind Prudential (north of Bijou), behind The Modbo (south of Bijou), and behind ReMax (south of Platte). Bands for the extravaganza include: Swelter and Burn, PsychoTease, M.o.D.T., and Cruxxes, featuring members of The Pirate Signal and BLKHRTS.
AMR Safety Jam - Pueblo
American Medical Response of Pueblo would like you to join them for the 1st Annual AMR Safety Jam on June 1st, at Pueblo City Park from 10:00a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event will promote safety and raise awareness of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries in children that participate in outdoor activities such as skateboarding and BMX.
Admission is free to this event and the activities and learning experiences will include:

24th Annual Bluegrass Festival
Pueblo, Friday, May 31 - Sunday, June 2
The 24th Annual Bluegrass at the Fair promises to be a fun-filled weekend of pickin' and jammin'.
All proceeds from the fair event will go to benefit the Robyn Barst Pediatric PH Research and Mentoring Program, the first and only research program in the world dedicated to pediatric pulmonary hypertension research. This organization is dear to festival founders Tom Thornburg and Damian Rotolo's heart as they've watched Tom's 6 year old grand-daughter, Brook, struggle with her own Idipathic Pulmonay Arterial Hypertension (IPAH) diagnosis since the age of 3.

PET PANTRY TO HOST THANKING THE COMMUNITY GALA WITH THE SUPPORT FROM C.S.P.D. K9 UNIT AND HUMANE SOCIETY
The K9 unit is scheduled to start their exhibition at 2:00 PM, Saturday June 1st, in the Target Shopping Center on the corner of Academy and Union Blvd's.
On the other end of the pet spectrum, Ami Manivong, Manager of the Feline-ality program at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, will be present with adoptable furry friends in need of loving homes.
Pet-Pantry will also be hosting its first annual "Free Dog Wash" during this exciting First Anniversary Gala. Pet-Pantry is equipped with four of the largest dog wash bath tubs in Colorado Springs and is looking forward to having them filled with both big and little dogs and a lot of suds. All donations throughout the day for the free dog washes will be donated to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
Cold beverages will be readily available for all patrons partaking with the day-long "thank you community" celebration.
El Paso County Parks Hold Photo Scavenger Hunt
El Paso County Parks will hold a Photo Scavenger Hunt this summer to encourage residents to get out, enjoy and explore the beautiful regional parks. There are 10 specific photos to be hunted out during the contest and include a visit to an El Paso County Nature Center, a county park slide, a picnic, a park sign, a regional trail and the County Fair.
The Photo Scavenger Hunt will run from June 1 to July 31, 2013, all photos must be taken during that eight-week time period to qualify. Winners will be selected randomly from the eligible entries received during the Scavenger Hunt. Prizes include birthday parties at the Fountain Creek or Bear Creek nature centers, park pavilion rental, tickets to the 2014 El Paso County Fair, Nature Center Bucks and t-shirts.
