MONUMENT, Colo. -

High winds fueled a wildfire in Monument Friday morning (11/8/13). It is now under control.

The fire started in a barn at Hay Creek and West Baptist Road.

A thick plume of smoke was visible from all over town at the height of the fire, which apparently spread to some nearby grass.  The barn and some cars were destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters were concerned because the fire was burning in close proximity to a subdivision, and strong wind gusts were fueling the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
