Colorado Springs police are trying to figure out what happened to a woman who was found shot in the head Saturday morning.
Lt. Adrian Vasquez said a person walking their dog found the 20-year-old woman in an alley near 7th and West Bijou streets at about 10 a.m.
The woman was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition Saturday night, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Investigators said they do not know if someone shot the woman or if she shot herself.
Police searched the area and interviewed neighbors Saturday afternoon.
"It's not a huge (crime) scene that we have to process, but obviously we want to do a complete job here, especially not knowing what happened," Vasquez said. "Unfortunately, we're not able to interview her yet."
Police are not yet identifying the woman.
Randy Trujillo said the woman was found behind his 7th Street home and he didn't notice her immediately, even while working on his truck.
"I saw two people looking down at the ground," he said. "After I took my wife to work, I saw a lady lying on her back with one shoe on. They had already put something over her face. To know that someone got shot or dumped behind our house is a little disturbing."
Several neighbors told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they saw or heard nothing suspicious before the woman was found. Police said she was found in a hilly area in a neighborhood not known for violent crime.
