The play of the secondary wasn’t perfect after the acquisition of Aqib Talib. But with Talib at one corner, Alfonzo Dennard on the opposite side, Kyle Arrington filling the slot and Devin McCourty making a more permanent home at safety, the Patriots defense seemed to click a little better. That’s why some players, Arrington in particular, would like to see the Patriots keep the heart of the group together. Speaking with the free agent cornerback Saturday night, Arrington said he was hopeful of re-signing. But he’d also like to see something work out for Talib, so the secondary can maintain some continuity going forward. It’s been somewhat of a revolving door with corners and safeties the past few years, and that bogs down communication and comfort levels with players being in the right spots. “Whenever you have consistency, I feel it can only help you,” Arrington said Saturday night, before his agent Sean Stellato was inducted into the Massachusetts chapter of the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. “Me and Aqib go back to when we were in Tampa in ’08-09 together. We know each other. We like each other.” In the short time he was in Foxboro, Talib, who arrived via the Buccaneers at the trade deadline, did become a popular figure in the locker room with his mates on defense, and the defensive backs in particular. He was also a steadying influence on the field.
Kyle Arrington hopes to stay with Patriots
