Cubs 4, Brewers 2: Welington Castillo and Mike Olt both homered while Travis Wood pitched seven strong innings as host Chicago claimed the rubber match of its three-game series with Milwaukee.
Wood (4-4) struck out seven while allowing just two runs on two hits and Hector Rondon pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save. Junior Lake and Starlin Castro added two hits apiece as the Cubs claimed their first series win since taking two of three from St. Louis from May 2-4.
Rickie Weeks provided all the offense for Milwaukee with a two-run homer as the Brewers were limited to three hits - all for extra bases. Marco Estrada (3-2) allowed four runs on seven hits over five frames en route to his first loss in 13 games (eight starts) against Chicago.
Castillo opened the scoring in the second inning by driving a 1-1 changeup from Estrada into the bleachers in left field for a 2-0 lead. Castro and Luis Valbuena stroked back-to-back doubles in the third to add another run, and Olt smacked his team-leading ninth homer leading off the fourth.
Weeks launched a 2-0 fastball from Wood onto Waveland Avenue in the fifth to halve the deficit, but the Brewers couldn't muster much else. Wood retired the last six batters he faced, Brian Schlitter worked a perfect eighth and Rondon worked around a leadoff double in the ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brewers CF Carlos Gomez (back) missed his second straight game since returning from a three-game suspension. … Four of Castillo's 19 career home runs have come against Estrada. He has not hit more than one against any other pitcher. … Milwaukee C Jonathan Lucroy, who entered the game hitting .347 on the road, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
