South Carolina took its only lead of the first half at 18-17 but that lasted 20 seconds before Pat Forsythe made a basket for Akron, which eventually stretched the advantage to 31-25 at the half. The Zips were still leading by eight when South Carolina unleashed a 10-1 run to move back ahead by a point.Akron would retake the lead again before another 10-1 burst put the Zips behind for good.
