Greg Robinson, who was Texas' defensive coordinator for much of last season, has been hired as San Jose State's new defensive coordinator, the school announced Friday.

Robinson, 62, replaces Kenwick Thompson, who left the Spartans for a job at Vanderbilt.

Robinson was a member of the Texas staff last season, and he became the Longhorns' defensive coordinator when Manny Diaz was fired from that position after the second game of the 2013 season.

It was Robinson's second stint as the Longhorns' defensive coordinator, with the first coming in 2004.

Before last season, Robinson spent four years as head coach at Syracuse before being fired following the 2008 season. He then spent two running Michigan's defense under Rich Rodriguez.
