The Mountain West Conference announced Air Force's 2013-14 men's basketball schedule today. This season, 12 of AFA's 29 games will be against teams that competed in the postseason last year and five games have been selected for national television at this time.
The Falcons' non-conference slate is highlighted by the third-annual All-Military Classic at VMI and home games against Richmond and in-state rival Colorado. Following an exhibition game at Clune Arena against Regis University on Nov. 3, the Falcons will open the regular season at the All-Military Classic beginning on Friday, Nov. 8 in Lexington, Va. Air Force's game against Army in the first round will tip-off at 1 p.m. (ET) and be televised nationally by ESPNU. The Falcons, in search of their third straight title, will then face either Citadel or VMI on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Eight consecutive home games follow the tournament, including the matchup against former Falcon head coach Chris Mooney and Richmond on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Air Force will then play the first of 10 games against teams that appeared in the 2013 NCAA Tournament by hosting Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 30. The non-conference schedule ends on Saturday, Dec. 21 at UC Davis.
The Mountain West slate increases to 18 games this season with the addition of Utah State and San Jose State. With 11 teams in the conference, each team will play eight teams twice and two teams once. Air Force will not host defending league champ New Mexico and not travel to Utah State in '13-14.
The conference opener is on Wednesday, Jan. 1 against league-newcomer Utah State at Clune Arena, followed by the Falcons' first conference road game at UNLV on Saturday, Jan. 4. AFA's game at San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 15 is scheduled to be televised by CBS Sports Network, while home games against SDSU (Jan. 12), UNLV (March 1) and Boise State (March 8) are scheduled to be shown on ESPN3.
Regional television broadcasts as well as game times will be announced at a later date.
