Cavs undergo massive makeover before trade deadline

Thomas, Wade, Rose among 6 departing Cavs

Just hours before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET NBA trade deadline, the Cleveland Cavaliers have undergone a massive makeover.

The team traded away Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, Dwyane Wade, Ian Shumpert, Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose in three separate trades Thursday.

They sent Thomas, who they received from Boston in the Kyrie Irving trade this offseason, to the the Los Angeles Lakers along with Frye and their protected first-round pick in 2018 for guard Jordan Clarkson and forward Larry Nance Jr.

Wade, who signed with the Cavs in September following a buyout deal with the Chicago Bulls, is headed back to his old team in the Miami Heat, according to a report from ESPN. The Cavs will get back a protected second-round pick in the swap, ESPN said.

Finally, the team acquired Rodney Hood and George Hill in a three-way deal with the Uah Jazz and Sacramento Kings, ESPN said. They sent out Shumpert and a 2020 second-round pick via the Heat to the Kings, while Crowder and Rose go to the Jazz.

That trade also sends Joe Johnson from Utah to Sacramento.

Cleveland wasn't alone in making moves before the deadline. Other moves Thursday included:

-- The Denver Nuggets traded guard Emmanuel Mudiay to the New York Knicks in a three-team deal that also involved the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN. The Mavs will receive Doug McDermott from the Knicks while Denver receives Devin Harris and a future pick from the Dallas.

-- The Detroit Pistons acquired point guard Jameer Nelson from the Chicago Bulls for center Willie Reed, ESPN reported. The teams also swapped 2022 second-round picks.

-- The Pistons also traded Brice Johnson and a second-round pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for forward James Ennis, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

-- The Atlanta Hawks sent forward Luke Babbitt to the Miami Heat for forward Okaro White, ESPN's The Undefeated reported, citing NBA sources.
