Flooding Potential & Some Snow
Widespread showers continue over southern Colorado this afternoon. While for most the rain is welcome, we expect flooding may become a reality over or near the burn areas. The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Pueblo has issued a Flood Advisory for the Waldo Canyon burn area. We will start to see the heaviest rain shift south this afternoon...
More than a large amount of water coming down a drainage at once, it currently appears that a mudslide/flow or debris flow is likely the flood issue that would occur today. Residents and motorists in Ute Pass should pay particular attention and be ready to seek higher ground or head to a higher floor of a building if need be.
We also expect some wet, heavy snow to fall over the mountains with several inches of snow possibly accumulating above tree line. While travel won't be heavily impacted for most areas, the highest passes could occasionally become slushy or snow covered and poor visibility is likely at times. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the highest peaks along the Sangre De Cristo mountain range as well as for the top of Pikes Peak, it lasts until 3:00 AM.
