Arkansas River raising concerns in La Junta

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. - The continuing rise of the Arkansas River is causing concerns for both residents and law enforcement in La Junta.

The Otero Count Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook on Thursday, saying that a self-service sandbag station has been set up at the COOP in North La Junta as a precautionary measure. That is located at 302 North Main Street.

Officials expect the Arkansas River to rise and crest sometime around midnight on Friday into Saturday.

The Sheriff's Office, with the help of Emergency Management and Road & Bridge, will monitor the river and problem areas tonight and Friday night to develop a response plan.
