Blizzard devastates some Baca County cattle ranchers

SPRINGFIELD, Colo. - Hundreds of cattle were lost or killed during this weekend's blizzard in southeastern Colorado.

Up to 30" of snow fell in Baca County, which is in the far southeastern corner of the state.

A KRDO NewsChannel 13 viewer shared photos of the devastation.

Julie Christiansen Tate says ranchers are working feverishly to recover the lost livestock.

The Baca County Conservation District posted on Facebook that ranchers who lost livestock in the storm should document the losses with pictures, then bring in inventory to the Farm Service Agency to apply for the livestock indemnity program.
