2 arrested in accidental shooting of 3-yr-old in El Paso County

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - Two people have been arrested in connection to an accidental shooting of a three-year-old in El Paso County on Friday morning.  

Abraham Gutierrez, 26, and Jose Gutierrez, 27, have been charged with Felony Child Abuse, Second Degree Assault, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm and Prohibited Use of a Weapon.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the two were intoxicated and handling a firearm when it accidentally discharged. The three-year-old was hit in the foot. 

Police responded to the 4400 block of Bramble Drive at around 4 a.m.

The toddler was taken to the hospital and was last reported in stable condition. 

Abraham Gutierrez is a Fort Carson soldier, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

He has served the military for 6 years.
