Hiker dies on Pikes Peak Wednesday afternoon

A man believed to be a hiker died in the area of Devil's Playground on Wednesday afternoon, just a few miles from the summit of Pikes Peak.

According to a CSPD spokesperson, they received the call just before 4pm.

Crews tried to bring a helicopter to airlift the victim off the mountain, but the helicopter was unable to land due to the terrain and/or weather conditions, according to police.

Neither his name nor exact cause of death was available Wednesday evening, but police don't believe the death is suspicious.

The incident comes less than two weeks after another hiker, 63 year old Thomas Holmes, died while hiking the Manitou Incline, a challenging stair climb at the base of Pikes Peak.

Holmes's death was not suspicious either, but instead attributed to a health issue.
