Man caught on camera stealing from Colorado Springs restaurant

CAUGHT ON CAMERA Suspect burglarizes...

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs restaurant burglarized in the middle of the night and it was all caught on camera.

The suspect was seen loading a U-Haul truck with stolen items and then taking off within minutes. We spoke exclusively to the owner of the restaurant who says in his more than ten years of business, this has never happened.

The video was taken from a surveillance camera at the Heart of Jerusalem restaurant on Austin Bluffs. It shows the moments a man stole several items from the back of the restaurant and loading them into a rented U-Haul truck at 2:30 in the morning. The suspect not trying to cover his face at all and not seeming to mind that he was being recorded during the burglary.

Owner Hussein Abukhdeir says a grill and other items were taken. All together it cost about $1,000.

"He just parked, he got out looking at the camera," Abukhdeir says. "He didn't care about it. He just took everything and took off."

The incident was reported to police but Abukhdeir says they won't help him because they could not read the license plate on the truck. Abukhdeir says he doesn't believe he will ever get his items back but is now calling on the public to help police find out who this person is before he strikes again.

The owner adds the items were left in the open at the back of the restaurant but now he says he will put everything inside so this situation can never happen again.

If you recognize the suspect in the video you are encouraged to contact police.
