Suspect in Colorado Springs police officer shooting pleads not guilty, trial date set

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The man accused of gravely wounding a Colorado Springs police officer by shooting him in the head appeared in court Friday for an arraignment hearing.

Karrar Noaman Al Khammasi alongside his Arabic interpreter entered a not guilty plea. He is accused of shooting Colorado Springs Police Officer Cem Duzel.

A trial date for Al Khammasi is set for February 18. Jury selection is expected to take some time due to the circumstances surrounding the case.

Al Khammasi will appear in court again on Dec. 5 and 6 for a motions hearing.
