Colorado State Patrol Trooper killed in crash on I-70

DEER TRAIL, Colo. - A Colorado State Patrol Trooper is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on I-70 near Deer Trail.

CSP says that Trooper William Moden, 37, responded to an earlier crash around 9:40 Friday night, near mile marker 234. That's when he was struck by another vehicle. Moden was taken to a hospital in Denver but was later pronounced dead.

"Trooper Moden had a big heart and he loved his family and loved being a State Trooper," Colonel Matthew Packard said in a statement. "All he wanted to do was make a difference."

Trooper Moden was with Colorado State Patrol for 12 years. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
